Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about OurStreet.

What is OurStreet?

OurStreet is a hyperlocal community platform built for Ireland. It connects you with the people who actually live on your street, in your estate, or around your area. Unlike national social networks, OurStreet is neighbourhood-first: everything happens at a local level, with real residents.

Is OurStreet free to use?

Yes. Creating an account and joining your neighbourhood is completely free. The only optional cost is €1 for a verification postcard (if you choose that route), which covers the cost of An Post delivery.

How do I find my neighbourhood?

When you sign up, you pick your county and then choose your neighbourhood from the list. We use the official census boundary names, so you'll find the area you live in. It only takes a few seconds.

What if my neighbourhood isn't listed?

We currently cover Waterford and Wexford. If you're in one of those counties but can't find your area, it may be listed under a nearby census boundary name. Email us at support@ourstreet.ie and we'll help you find it.

What are the different verification levels?

There are three trust tiers:

  • Member: you've picked your neighbourhood and joined. Instant, no extra steps required.
  • Community Verified: you've proved you're a local resident through one of two methods: scanning a QR poster put up in your neighbourhood, or being vouched for by two Verified Residents.
  • Verified Resident: the highest trust level. You receive a postcard with a unique code delivered to your address. When you enter the code, you're confirmed as a resident. This is the same method Google and others use for address verification.

Do I need to get verified?

No, basic membership is enough to access your neighbourhood and join the WhatsApp group. Verification is optional but it builds trust with your neighbours and unlocks extra features like vouching and poster generation.

How does postcard verification work?

Postcard verification is coming soon. When available, you'll go to Settings, request a postcard, and we'll send a unique code to your postal address. When it arrives, usually within 3-5 working days, you enter the code to become a Verified Resident.

How does QR poster verification work?

Verified Residents can print and put up QR code posters around the neighbourhood. Scan the QR code (or enter the code manually at ourstreet.ie/join), and you're instantly upgraded to Community Verified. Codes expire after 30 days and can be rotated by the resident who created them.

How does vouching work?

Verified Residents get 3 vouches per month to give to Members in their neighbourhood. If you receive 2 vouches from Verified Residents, you're automatically upgraded to Community Verified. Vouches can be revoked (e.g. if you gave one by mistake), and if the count drops below 2 your status reverts.

Can anyone see my address?

No. Your Eircode and postal address are never shown to other users. Only your display name, profile photo (if you upload one), verification badge, and neighbourhood are visible to your neighbours.

What is the neighbourhood WhatsApp group?

Each neighbourhood can have a WhatsApp Community invite link pinned by a Verified Resident. This takes you directly to a WhatsApp group for your area: OurStreet doesn't host the chat itself, it just provides the verified link. WhatsApp groups are managed by residents, not by OurStreet.

I signed in with Google. What data do you get from Google?

When you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and display name from Google. We don't receive your Google contacts, photos, Drive, or any other Google data. You still pick your neighbourhood during onboarding.

How do I delete my account?

Email us at support@ourstreet.ie with your registered email address and we'll delete your account and personal data within 30 days. Self-service account deletion in Settings is on our roadmap.

What happens if I move house?

You can leave your current neighbourhood in Settings and join a new one. Email support@ourstreet.ie if you need any help moving to your new area.

Is OurStreet available as an app?

Right now OurStreet is a mobile-friendly web app: just visit ourstreet.ie on your phone and add it to your home screen. A native iOS and Android app is planned for Phase 2.
